Final Project: Water Contamination

Final Project: Graphic Design
Undrinkable Water in South Africa.
The lack of clean water and poor water management create a crisis for people and the environment. This project aims to address this issue through awareness design. A comprehensive approach is required, which includes raising awareness, promoting responsible water usage, and providing practical solutions to affected communities.
Welcome to Aqua Track
Background
Waste and water pollution are major global problems that have a negative impact on the environment, people's health, and communities. Utilizing graphic design to address these concerns offers a special chance to spread knowledge, encourage education, and promote change. Water waste is the inefficient use of water resources, which is frequently brought on by leaks, excessive usage, and poor infrastructure. Contrarily, polluted water, which makes it unhealthy to drink and harms ecosystems, originates from pollution and the introduction of contaminants into water sources.

Through a complete app and integrated campaign, the suggested solution solves South Africa's problems with water waste and contamination. Survey shows that 0% of people are aware of any water-related campaigns in South Africa. The app is a flexible platform that provides up-to-date information on pollution levels, water quality, and conservation advice. Users get access to interactive maps that highlight sources of clean water and can sign up for alerts for pollution occurrences. Additionally, it has a reporting function for community involvement. The integrated campaign supports the app by promoting responsible water use and increasing awareness of water-related issues through social media, instructional materials, and community activities. In order to enlighten South Africans, encourage informed decision-making, minimize water waste, and collaborate toward cleaner, safer water sources nationally, this strategy integrates technology with community mobilization.
Campaign
The logo of Aqua Track was created to resemblance the look and feel of water. The dynamic combination of blue and orange tones in the logo represents the purity and spirit of water. The colour blue represents the transparency and clarity of water, representing the essential objective of keeping clean and usable water sources.

The usage of three separate hues serves to further emphasize Aqua Track's dedication to accurate water quality monitoring. Water that is the clearest shade of blue is considered safe for consumption. On the other hand, the orange colour indicates a low degree of pollution and acts as a warning. Last but not least, the red hue acts as a clear signal that the water is highly contaminated.
The image is made up of three water droplets that each reflect the logo's fluid and smooth design while differing in the three specified colours—blue, orange, and red. This emblem serves as a visible reminder of Aqua Track's thorough method of observing and managing water resources, making certain that consumers are always aware of the condition of their water supply.

The tagline "For Generations to Come" effectively captures Aqua Track's long-term goals and dedication. This short yet powerful word represents the company's unwavering commitment to maintaining water resources for both the benefit of the present and future generations.

App
The app is essential for tackling the problem of water management and safety since it offers in-the-moment updates, contamination displays, useful tips, a report tool, and pertinent local news. The ad highlights the brand's dedication to equipping people with useful information and tools to make informed decisions about their water consumption and health by fusing cutting-edge technology with user-friendly features. The program not only encourages active participation in sustainable water management methods but also raises public awareness of the value of water safety and conservation. Aqua Track's campaign highlights its commitment to ensuring the well being of communities and the environment, paving the road for a more
water-secure future for all by enabling users to keep informed about local water conditions and potential contaminants.
Instagram
Carousel
An Instagram carousel post used to introduce a business represents a dynamic and persuasive method of grabbing the attention of the modern online audience. This feature enables the brands to successfully communicate their identity, beliefs, and offers by presenting a coherent narrative or a thorough visual story.
Posts and Feed
The concept sketch only shows one thread-post, but the final Instagram has a whole feed and many more posts. The thread post was firstly more line work and outlined illustrations and the final is a more thought-out post with drastic news article headlines put together to show how much information and water issues South Africa has, and next is a question that is quite rhetorical because no one wants bad news, ever. Lastly, the final slide shows that Aqua track can help you with the bad news. The line work is to guide the viewers eyes to the next posts on the slide but also to represent an investigation board. The water crisis is an ongoing case to solve in SA.
Posters
This powerful message emphasizes the shared responsibility of individuals and communities in preserving this essential resource and serves as an emotional reminder of the important need to cherish and protect every precious drop of water. With a sense of urgency to address water scarcity and pollution, the poster hopes to spur action.
The posts were initially made out to each tell a different story with the water elements, and all things that affect water usage.
The concept sketches showed a bigger illustrated background and a stricter worked out poster. The final posters are in a more doodle-style illustrations and made with thinner strokes to make the text in the middle stand out. The illustrations were placed in a way to show that everything humans do flow together, and everything we do has an impact on water and nature. Every illustration has an effect on water and is connected to water in a way. The doodle effect fits more with the brand and is an easier style that flows the way the campaign feels and how water feels. The colours of the posters is also in sequence with the brand and on the app where the different colours represent the qualities of the water.
Motion Graphic
Billboard Advertising
The advertisement wants to raise awareness of the critical problem of water scarcity by disclosing this worrying number and pushing people to take proactive measures to monitor and control their water usage. The suggestion to download the Aqua Track App represents a workable solution that will enable users to make wise decisions about their water consumption by keeping them up to date on water shortages and contaminants in real time.
The billboard design has stayed the same from the concept sketches. The choice in making two different coloured advertisements is for when the billboards are in different areas, some may stand out better than others depending on the environment around the advertisement. The colour pop on the ad is to create an eye-catching frame that will make people want to look up when being focused or being in deep thought. The billboard also has little text as not to have people’s attention away from the road for too long.
Additionally, the process of designing the visual components of the campaign, such as the billboards, Instagram posts, posters, and animations, has given me the opportunity to consider fresh approaches to successfully convey the brand's message. I was able to build a cohesive and engaging narrative that connects with the target audience and motivates active engagement in the campaign by combining eye-catching imagery, intriguing information, and the seamless integration of the Aqua Track brand features. I aspire to contribute to the water crisis in not only South Africa, but the world. This project has opened my eyes and I hope it will do the same for many other people. Thank you.
